Tunisian-born composer, sing and oud player Dhafer Youssef has been living in Europe since 1990, establishing himself as one of World music's most innovative musicians. While Youssef's music is rooted in the mystical Sufi tradition, he has always integrated ideas from other musical cultures as well as from the jazz scene. With his poetic approah on the oud (the Arabic lute), his complex North African compositions and especially his passionate singing, Dhafer Youssef is one of the most impressive musical voices to emerge in many years, and his live performances have consistaently drawn exuberant praise from music reviewers around the world.
